Co-op launches a 24-hour grocery delivery service in select UK cities. Partnering with Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, they aim to capture over one-third of the quick commerce market. Service targets Gen Z and night shift workers.
Starting this month, Co-op is rolling out a 24-hour online grocery delivery service in Leeds, London, and Manchester. This move is a response to growing demand for rapid deliveries, especially at non-traditional hours. Co-op is teaming up with Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats to ensure groceries reach customers at any time, day or night. Stores were chosen based on demographics and their ability to operate around the clock.
New research by Co-op reveals that over 40% of quick commerce shoppers would use a delivery service between 11 pm and 5 am. The figure is even higher for those aged 18 to 44, and it's most popular among Gen Z, with 52.3% of shoppers aged 18 to 24 expressing interest. This indicates a shift in shopping behavior, driven by changing lifestyles and night shift work, which Co-op is eager to capitalize on.
Co-op’s expansion into 24-hour delivery aligns with its strategy to capture more than one-third of the quick commerce market. They have already extended their online availability to over 1,600 stores. Chris Conway, Co-op’s ecommerce director, emphasized that “ease, speed, and convenience” are key to their approach, aiming to meet the needs of customers at any time.
Currently, over 80% of the UK population can access Co-op groceries, either through its online shop or delivery partners. With the 24-hour service, Co-op strengthens its position in the quick commerce market, especially among younger consumers and those needing groceries during late hours. The retailer’s approach ensures that it remains at the heart of communities across the UK.
