Zalando has upgraded its virtual fitting room by integrating body measurement technology, making it easier for customers to visualize how clothes fit. The new feature allows customers to create 3D avatars that replicate their exact body shape, not just based on height or weight. This enhancement builds on Zalando’s previous body measurement tools from 2023, helping shoppers see realistic representations of clothing sizes before purchasing.

The enhanced virtual fitting room is launching in 14 European countries, offering a curated selection of Levi’s products for men and women, such as jackets, t-shirts, and hoodies. Over 80,000 customers have already tried Zalando’s virtual fitting room since its early versions in 2022, contributing to its development. This four-week pilot is expected to provide key insights for further improvements.
📉 Reducing Returns by 40%
Zalando aims to solve common frustrations, such as poor size guides and frequent returns. Early tests show that the new technology could reduce returns by up to 40%. "While these results are limited to the testing phase, they are a promising indicator of its potential," said Pelin Anlu Bedirhanoglu, Director of Product Size and Fit.

European shoppers have reported dissatisfaction with traditional fitting rooms, citing issues like lack of space, uncomfortable environments, and concerns about fit. Zalando’s survey showed that 36% of adults would abandon a purchase after a poor fitting experience. The virtual fitting room offers a 360° view and a zoom function, allowing users to visualize outfits from different angles and solve these fitting challenges from home.
