The deal includes 17 stores and a strong online presence, totaling $83M in sales last year. Frasers Group also eyes bankrupt Sprinter’s locations in the Netherlands.
Frasers Group has announced its latest strategic move in the retail sector by acquiring Twin Sport, a Dutch sports retailer part of the Intersport franchise. This acquisition is aligned with Sports Direct's goal to become the leading sports retailer in the EMEA region. Twin Sport reported impressive sales of $83M in 2023, highlighting its substantial market presence.
In addition to acquiring Twin Sport, Frasers is negotiating to take over more than 10 former retail locations of the bankrupt sports retailer Sprinter in the Netherlands. This expansion will significantly increase Frasers' retail footprint in the region, supporting its aim to dominate the sports retail market across the Benelux countries.
Ger Wright, Frasers Group's managing director of sport, commented on the acquisition, "This accelerates our ambition in EMEA. As part of Frasers, Twin Sport will benefit from our elevation strategy and omnichannel retail capabilities." This statement underscores the strategic intent to enhance Twin Sport's operations and offerings.
The acquisition is part of a broader strategy by Frasers Group, which has been actively expanding through various acquisitions, including the online bike retailer Wiggle and a stake in Hornby. These moves are indicative of Frasers' aggressive growth strategy and its commitment to diversifying its holdings in the retail sector.
