Amazon now offers Prime members a 10 cents/gallon discount at 7,000 BP, Amoco, and AM/PM stations. Members must enroll in Earnify for access. This comes four years after Walmart+ introduced similar gas perks. EV charging savings will follow in 2025.
Amazon has introduced a new benefit for Prime members: a 10 cents per gallon discount at around 7,000 BP, Amoco, and AM/PM gas stations across the U.S. This move, announced on October 23, 2024, aims to provide relief from high gas prices. Amazon estimates that Prime members could save about $70 per year on fuel through this discount. To take advantage of this offer, members must first join Earnify, a loyalty program used by BP and its associated stations.
In addition to the gas discount, Amazon plans to roll out electric vehicle (EV) charging savings for Prime members starting in 2025. The upcoming benefit will be available through BP Pulse, BP's EV charging network. This new addition aligns with growing EV adoption and aims to extend Amazon's membership value. The shift towards EVs mirrors industry trends and responds to consumer demand for more sustainable options.
Amazon's latest perk directly challenges Walmart+, which offers similar fuel discounts. Walmart+ members have enjoyed a 10 cents per gallon discount at over 13,000 Exxon, Mobil, Murphy, and Walmart gas stations since 2020. Walmart’s Sam’s Club and Costco have also provided fuel savings as membership perks, creating a competitive landscape. Amazon's addition of fuel discounts comes as part of its $14.99 per month membership, aiming to lure in more consumers.
Amazon continues to add value to its $14.99 per month Prime subscription. Beyond fuel discounts, Prime includes benefits like free delivery, access to Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music, and more. The latest perk may attract budget-conscious customers amid fluctuating fuel prices. With both gas and future EV savings, Amazon is positioning Prime as a comprehensive membership. A representative noted, “We’re always looking for new ways to deliver value to Prime members.”
