Vinted's latest report reveals that 65% of its members have at least 25% of their wardrobes made up of second-hand items. Over 100,000 members participated in the research, which was combined with analysis from climate tech start-up Vaayu. This shows second-hand fashion is becoming a significant part of everyday life for many.
The UK, Germany, France, and Poland are leading the way in second-hand fashion. More than 40% of Vinted members in these countries report that over half of their wardrobes consist of second-hand items. This highlights a shift towards more sustainable fashion choices in these regions.
Vinted CEO Thomas Plantenga is optimistic about the future of second-hand fashion. "Our Impact Report shows second-hand has the potential to become the first choice across Europe," he said. Plantenga believes that making second-hand easy and accessible is key to its growth, which could benefit both the environment and the economy.
According to the report, 48% of Vinted members choose second-hand items because they are cheaper than new ones. Additionally, 84% of buyers find the quality of second-hand items on Vinted to be as good or better than new. Social media interest in second-hand fashion brands has also surged, with posts reaching up to 5.5 million users.
