Bausch + Lomb launched Opal, a digital marketplace for contact lenses, aiming to simplify ordering and improve patient experience. The platform allows 24/7 ordering, integrates loyalty rewards, and offers free shipping for practices and patients.
Bausch + Lomb introduced Opal, an eCommerce platform for contact lenses, on October 24, 2024. Opal aims to streamline ordering, allowing eye care practices to manage orders directly and offer patients 24/7 access. This move supports Bausch + Lomb’s focus on digital solutions in healthcare, reflecting their strategy to meet the needs of an evolving digital economy. According to Yang Yang, president of Global Vision Care, Opal helps connect patients with their eye care providers seamlessly, offering direct ordering and free shipping, along with integration into the Horizon Rewards program.
Opal is designed to boost patient convenience, with features like order tracking, prescription reminders, and automated communication with practices. “With price transparency and the ability to order directly from their trusted eye care professionals, patients no longer need to wait for the clinic to open,” Yang explained. The 24/7 ordering system ensures patients can manage their eye care needs anytime. Opal's integration with Bausch + Lomb's loyalty program enables users to earn and redeem points, making the ordering experience more rewarding.
Opal simplifies operations for eye care professionals, providing a single platform to handle patient orders and reducing the need for third-party vendors. This helps practices save time and focus more on patient care. Yang noted that Opal’s dashboard offers insights into sales trends, aiding in better inventory management. The platform's efficiency means practices can provide continuous ordering options to patients, fostering stronger relationships without adding to administrative burdens.
Opal will soon include over-the-counter products like eye drops, addressing both patient demand and the needs of eye care practices. Bausch + Lomb plans further updates, such as integrating with practice management systems and offering more product categories. “We plan to continuously evolve the Opal platform to meet the changing needs of eye care professionals and their patients,” Yang stated. The goal is to ensure Opal remains a valuable tool for both professionals and patients, adapting to the digital landscape and driving growth for Bausch + Lomb.
