Shopify and YouTube expand their partnership, allowing eligible Shopify sellers in the U.S. to join YouTube's affiliate program. Merchants can now leverage creators to promote products, boosting visibility and sales through social commerce.
Shopify announced an expanded partnership with YouTube, benefiting its merchants in the U.S. Shopify Plus and Advanced sellers can now join YouTube's affiliate program directly through Google and YouTube's apps on Shopify. This partnership builds on previous collaborations between the two companies, enhancing opportunities for merchants to reach broader audiences through video content.
Through YouTube Shopping's affiliate program, Shopify merchants can partner with content creators to promote their products. Brands like GoPure Beauty, BK Beauty, and HexClad are already participating. The program also includes a Google Chrome extension, allowing creators to save and tag products in their videos, with real-time earnings tracking.
YouTube's expanded collaboration with Shopify aligns with its broader investment in social commerce. In 2022, YouTube partnered with Shopify to integrate shoppable links in creator content. David Katz, YouTube's VP of shopping products, emphasized this focus, noting that over 30 billion hours of shopping-related videos were viewed in 2023 alone. The aim is to make shopping more seamless and engaging on the platform.
YouTube is not alone in enhancing content shopping features. Competitors like TikTok, Amazon, and Wish have introduced similar tools, integrating shopping capabilities into their platforms. TikTok launched TikTok Shop, Amazon introduced Amazon Live, and Wish added Wish Clips. These developments reflect the growing importance of social commerce in the digital shopping landscape, with platforms racing to offer the best tools for brands and creators.
