Poshmark reported a 41% increase in searches for BHLDN wedding dresses and a 12% rise in wedding dress searches overall. Brides and wedding guests are opting for secondhand options to cut costs. Poshmark allows them to buy designer dresses at a fraction of the cost, with some saving over 50% off retail prices. The trend is also helping brides recoup value from their dresses, with sellers like Victoria listing items like a Carolina Herrera mini dress and Jimmy Choo pumps.
As wedding costs soar, many brides are turning to secondhand marketplaces like Poshmark to find their dream dresses. Poshmark has seen a 12% increase in wedding dress searches, with BHLDN dresses alone experiencing a 41% spike. The average wedding gown costs $2,000, but luxury dresses can reach $10,000. Chloe Baffert from Poshmark said, "Shopping secondhand allows brides to purchase their dream dress without sacrificing style or breaking the bank."
It's not just brides saving money—bridesmaids and guests are also shopping secondhand. Searches for Lulu’s and Birdy Gray dresses on Poshmark are up by 21% and 22%, respectively. Poshmark’s visual search tool, Posh Lens, makes finding the perfect dress easy. Bridesmaids can save more than 50% on dresses, and guests can find trendy styles for a fraction of the price. "Resale allows wedding guests to shop trendy and timeless styles at a fraction of the cost," added Baffert.
Real brides are sharing their success stories with secondhand shopping. Emily Evans from Chicago found her evening gown, bachelorette outfit, and more on Poshmark. Daniella, who needed a specific bridesmaid dress, found it perfectly hemmed on the platform. She emphasized, "It was perfect!" These stories show how secondhand shopping is helping brides save on items that would otherwise sit in their closets post-wedding.
Brides like Victoria are also benefiting from the secondhand trend by selling their bridal attire. Victoria recently listed a Carolina Herrera mini dress and Jimmy Choo pumps she wore at her wedding on Poshmark. "Resale allows us to wear high-end outfits without paying designer prices," she said. Sellers enjoy significant returns on investment, as unique pieces from designers like Self Portrait and Zimmermann retain their value well in the resale market.
