Migros discontinues FoodNow to focus on core business. Alfies buys Stash, expanding its Swiss presence. Despite 600 partners, FoodNow couldn't meet goals. Stash, active in Zurich and Lucerne, joins Alfies after struggling to break even.
Migros announced the closure of its food delivery service, FoodNow, by the end of May. FoodNow was launched by Migros Aare in 2020. Despite growth last year with 600 restaurant partners, the service failed to meet business goals. Migros stated, "Despite considerable growth, the business goals could not be achieved."
The Austrian online supermarket Alfies launched in Switzerland in February and is now expanding further. Alfies announced the takeover of Stash. "We will include the favorite products of Stash customers in the Alfies range," said Gunther Michl, co-founder of Alfies.
Founded in 2021, Stash operated in Zurich and Lucerne. Stash reported reaching break-even in November 2023. However, it discontinued services in Geneva in 2022 and Basel. Stash's Chairman Remo Hansen said, "We built Stash well, making it attractive for Alfies' takeover."
The Swiss delivery market is consolidating. Farmy is cutting costs, and Aldi is tightening home delivery. The closures of Avec Now, Hey Migrolino, and My Migros highlight this trend. Alfies now aims to dominate with its recent acquisition of Stash, serving Zurich and surrounding areas.
