Leroy Merlin's Polish marketplace will not just mediate but showcase offers from external companies on its site, leveraging experiences from its global network.
Leroy Merlin, a prominent player in the DIY retail sector, is setting up a new cornerstone for its business with the launch of a marketplace in Poland. Following successful implementations in various countries, this strategic move allows external vendors to list remodeling, building, and decorating products directly on Leroy Merlin's platform. This initiative taps into the growing trend of online transactions in specialized product categories.
The marketplace operations will be supported by a collaboration with entrepreneurs handling ordering and post-sales services, while Leroy Merlin will manage payment processing. This hybrid model seeks to complement the existing online store, which continues to perform robustly, by diversifying the available product range and optimizing warehouse operations.
Currently, a dedicated team in Poland is being assembled to drive the project, with a key recruitment underway for a project head who will oversee the marketplace's launch and growth. The platform, developed on Mirakl's SaaS solution by Adeo Group, is expected to draw on the experiences and successes of similar setups in countries like France, Brazil, and Spain.
Leroy Merlin is not the first in the Polish DIY market to venture into marketplace territory; Castorama announced its specialized DIY platform earlier last year. However, Leroy Merlin's entry is marked by its significant global footprint and a strong track record, with its platforms achieving a GMV of €2.3B in 2022.
