Getir's UK stores join forces with Too Good To Go, offering 'Surprise Bags' worth £16-£18 for just £5.50 to fight food waste. Karthik Harith highlights the sustainable and value-driven aspect of this partnership.
Getir, the rapid delivery service, has embarked on a novel journey with Too Good To Go, aiming to significantly reduce food waste in the UK. This collaboration allows app users to purchase 'Surprise Bags', filled with near-expiry goods at a fraction of the cost. Available across 45 Getir stores in London, Manchester, and Portsmouth, each bag costs a mere £5.50, yet contains groceries valued between £16 to £18. This initiative not only presents a win-win for consumers seeking value but also contributes to a larger, eco-conscious effort.
The partnership between Getir and Too Good To Go is part of a growing trend among grocery retailers to combat food waste through innovative solutions. Similar initiatives have been observed with Aldi, which recently celebrated a climate milestone by saving approximately 1,000 tonnes of CO2 in one year, thanks to its alliance with Too Good To Go. Additionally, Booths supermarket has joined the fray, saving 7,350 meals from waste and preventing 18 tonnes of CO2e emissions during their trial period with the social impact company.
Getir UK's general manager, Karthik Harith, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the dual benefits of reducing in-store and at-home food waste while offering customers access to good food at great value. This initiative reflects Getir's broader commitment to sustainability and customer satisfaction. As more retailers join forces with Too Good To Go, the industry moves closer to a more sustainable and waste-conscious future.
