eBay teams up with Luxe Collective to launch a consignment service for luxury handbags, starting with top brands like Chanel and Hermès. The service promises a potential 45% increase in sales price.
eBay has unveiled a new consignment service tailored for luxury handbags by partnering with Luxe Collective, a reputable luxury goods seller. This collaboration is a strategic move, allowing eBay to tap into the high-end pre-owned market. Luxe Collective, known for its expertise in selling coveted pre-owned luxury items, benefits by gaining access to a larger inventory through eBay’s vast user base. This partnership is set to revolutionize how luxury handbags are sold online, with Luxe Collective handling all aspects of the sale, from photography to pricing.
The new consignment service has already demonstrated its potential to yield higher final sale prices. For instance, a Chanel 19 flap bag sold for over 45% more than the average on eBay. However, sellers must be aware that Luxe Collective will take a substantial cut of the sale proceeds. Their commission starts at 40% for items under $1,800 and decreases to 20% for items over $12,000. Despite the high commission, sellers are relieved of the complexities of listing, selling, and handling buyer communications.
The selling process through eBay’s consignment service is designed to be seamless and user-friendly. Sellers start by filling out a simple online form. Once submitted, they receive a prepaid, insured shipping label to send their items to Luxe Collective. Upon receipt, Luxe Collective manages the entire sale process, including professional photography, competitive pricing, and listing the item on eBay. This hands-off approach is particularly appealing to sellers who want to avoid the hassles associated with selling luxury goods online.
This consignment service is part of eBay’s broader strategy to dominate the luxury market. It builds on the success of eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee service, which has expanded to include pearl jewelry. eBay’s recent acquisition of Certilogo, an AI-powered authentication provider, further strengthens its position as a trusted platform for luxury and fashion items. According to Mari Corella, eBay’s General Manager of Luxury and Sneakers, the consignment service aligns with eBay’s mission to provide customers with a secure and efficient marketplace for buying and selling high-end goods.
