DoorDash and BioPak collaborate to provide affordable sustainable packaging for restaurants in WA & SA. With new regulations, DoorDash merchants can access special pricing on BioPak's products, helping them reduce plastic waste.
On 1 September 2024, South Australia and Western Australia enforced new regulations banning single-use plastics. In response, DoorDash and BioPak partnered to provide eco-friendly packaging solutions to help businesses comply with these rules. This collaboration offers restaurants and cafés access to sustainable packaging at reduced rates, easing the transition to more environmentally friendly practices.
Through this partnership, DoorDash merchants can now create accounts on BioPak’s shopping portal using their DoorDash credentials. This gives them access to special pricing on BioPak’s sustainable products, including plant-based, compostable containers and red bags. These items are designed to meet the new state regulations while supporting the merchants’ efforts to reduce plastic waste.
The partnership is expected to greatly benefit small businesses adjusting to the new packaging laws. DoorDash General Manager Puji Fernando emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting merchants' environmental goals. In 2023, DoorDash's efforts, in collaboration with its restaurant partners, successfully diverted over 133,971kg of plastic waste from landfills, showcasing the potential impact of sustainable practices.
BioPak CEO Gary Smith highlighted the significance of this partnership in promoting a circular economy. He stated, "At BioPak, we’re committed to disrupting the traditional packaging model and creating compostable solutions." This collaboration with DoorDash is a major step toward BioPak’s goal of achieving a Zero Waste future. The partnership is not just about compliance but also about fostering long-term environmental change across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
