Walgreens introduced Nice! For You, a new health-focused line with over 150 items free from artificial ingredients. This move aims to boost sales as private label products gain popularity. Tracey Brown highlights their commitment to high-quality, affordable products.
Walgreens has launched a new line of health-focused foods and drinks under its Nice! private label. The Nice! For You line includes more than 150 items that are free from artificial flavors, sweeteners, synthetic dyes, and high-fructose corn syrup. This initiative taps into the growing trend of better-for-you foods that has been popular in the grocery industry. The company aims to strengthen its financial standing with this new product line.
Walgreens introduced Nice! in 2011 to simplify its private label portfolio. The new Nice! For You line is an extension of this brand, focusing on offering bold flavors and healthier options like oatmeal, dried fruit, jerky, frozen foods, and baking products. The move comes after a disappointing third quarter, as Walgreens looks to enhance its value proposition with shoppers. Tracey Brown, Walgreens' president of Retail and chief customer officer, emphasized the company's commitment to high-quality products at great value.
Research from Statista indicates that half of U.S. shoppers consider themselves "healthy eaters," a significant factor in Walgreens' decision to launch Nice! For You. The broader Nice! line, which includes products meeting national brand standards, now offers a niche selection for health-conscious consumers. Private labels have become increasingly important, with a fifth of grocery unit sales last year attributed to these products, according to the Private Label Manufacturers Association.
Walgreens' new line comes at a time when other retailers are also expanding their private label offerings. Walmart launched bettergoods in April, and Target introduced Dealworthy in February. As Walgreens transitions from its traditional pharmacy business to healthcare delivery, it aims to close many U.S. stores to improve its fortunes. Brown, who joined Walgreens in mid-2021 after leading the American Diabetes Association, is driving these efforts to connect better with health-focused shoppers.
