SportsShoes launched a new composable website on BigCommerce after a £2.5M overhaul. The site increased conversion rates by 19% and average order value by 10%. It uses Next.js and Prismic.io CMS for a seamless customer experience.
SportsShoes, the UK's largest independent sporting goods retailer, recently launched a new website on BigCommerce, investing £2.5M in the project. The decision was part of their goal to modernize their ecommerce operations. They chose BigCommerce for its flexibility and partnered with leading experts to deliver a cutting-edge online retail experience. "We knew there was an opportunity to unlock more revenue from our website," said Jon Cleaver, CTO of SportsShoes.
To create a future-proof and efficient site, SportsShoes adopted a headless approach, using Next.js hosted on Vercel. This setup allows for easy platform changes as technology evolves. Since launching in 2024, the site has delivered impressive results: conversion rates have increased by 19% year-over-year, and average order values are up by 10%. SportsShoes also utilizes BigCommerce's Multi-Storefront to manage their UK, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France sites, along with a new mobile app.
The new site offers an intuitive shopping experience, crucial for SportsShoes' diverse customer base. From elite athletes to beginners, customers can now easily navigate the site, access real-world content, and make purchases directly from product pages. Over 80% of the site’s content is dynamic, powered by Prismic.io CMS. This shift has also led to a more cohesive team effort within SportsShoes, streamlining content updates across multiple languages and markets.
SportsShoes' technical team underwent significant upskilling during this project. Back-end developers transitioned to manage AWS cloud-based technologies, enhancing their capabilities. This project represents a substantial shift in how the company operates, especially in its ability to serve both elite and amateur runners. "This is particularly important since a growing part of our business plan is to engage with the running community," Cleaver emphasized, underscoring the brand's commitment to customer engagement and future growth.
