🇦🇹 Food delivery workers strike during Euro match

1️⃣ Collective bargaining deadlock ⚖️

Negotiations for a new collective agreement for bicycle couriers in Austria have been at a standstill for months. With no progress, food delivery workers have announced a strike in Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, and Klagenfurt. The strike is set from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m., coinciding with the European Championship football match between Austria and France.

2️⃣ Wage dispute 💸

The union demands an 8.7% wage increase for bicycle couriers, while employers have offered only 5.8%. Markus Petritsch, chairman of the road department at vida, stated, "It is a scandal that there is enough money for UEFA sponsorship but not for a wage increase for employees." The negotiations have been dragging on for months without resolution.

3️⃣ Limited strike impact 🚴‍♂️

Foodora and Lieferando, two major food delivery companies, do not anticipate significant disruption from the strike. Lieferando commented, "The call for a strike only applies to one shift, and even within this shift, participation within our fleet will remain manageable." Only about 2,000 of the 4,500 bicycle couriers in Austria are covered by the collective agreement.

The union has also announced further strikes on June 21 and June 25, aligning with additional European Championship matches involving the Austrian team. These planned actions indicate a continued push for better wages and conditions for food delivery workers across Austria.
