Domino's, led by CEO Russell John Weiner, uses AI to start making pizzas before customers order them. This innovation aims to speed up delivery and improve efficiency. The company is also partnering with Microsoft to enhance their AI capabilities.
Domino's is using artificial intelligence to revolutionize pizza making. CEO Russell John Weiner announced during the company’s May earnings call that the world’s biggest pizza company is already utilizing AI. “We make pizzas before people order them,” Weiner said. By predicting when customers will order, they can start making the pizzas ahead of time.
The AI technology aims to streamline the delivery process. According to Weiner, this means delivery drivers can avoid wasting time looking for parking spots. With the pizzas ready ahead of time, employees can quickly bring them to the drivers, resulting in faster deliveries. This process not only speeds up service but also increases tips for drivers, encouraging more efficient deliveries.
Domino's is collaborating with Microsoft to enhance their AI capabilities. The AI assistant being developed will help manage tasks like inventory management, ingredient ordering, and staff scheduling. “How can we use AI to figure out those solutions?” Weiner asked. The goal is to make store operations smoother and save time for managers.
Looking forward, Weiner hopes AI will further improve operational efficiency. Eventually, the AI will be smart enough to manage delivery driver availability and decision-making processes that currently require a manager’s input. This vision includes an AI assistant that acts as a pizza concierge, enhancing customer experience on their website.
