DHL eCommerce and CTT Expresso partner to dominate Iberia’s parcel market with a daily capacity of 1M+ shipments, aiming for $1B in joint revenue. Regulatory approval pending.
DHL eCommerce and CTT Expresso have announced a strategic partnership to dominate the parcel delivery market in Spain and Portugal. This region, the 4th largest in Europe for e-commerce, is set to benefit from the most extensive pick-up and delivery network. Together, their combined capacity will exceed 1M daily shipments. The collaboration includes DHL acquiring a 25% stake in CTT Expresso Portugal, while CTT Group will hold 25% of DHL eCommerce Spain. This is just the beginning, with options to grow their stakes to 49% in the future.
The partnership integrates CTT’s 20,000 service points, 22 hubs, and 257 depots with DHL’s 3,000 service points, seven hubs, and 73 depots. Customers will gain access to a unified drop-off and pick-up system. The companies also plan to deploy 10,000 new parcel lockers across Iberia under the Locky brand. This move improves convenience and strengthens cross-border services, leveraging DHL’s European network to offer seamless international shipping solutions.
João Bento, CEO of CTT, emphasized the potential for growth, calling the partnership a "game-changer" for the booming e-commerce market. Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL eCommerce, set a $1B revenue target for joint operations. This collaboration focuses on high-quality service for B2B and B2C clients, with separate branding strategies for each segment. The partnership aims to create a reliable and efficient network that meets the needs of rapidly expanding online retail.
The deal remains subject to regulatory approvals. Both companies are optimistic about obtaining the necessary clearances. Once finalized, the partnership will redefine parcel logistics in Iberia, providing scalable solutions to e-commerce businesses of all sizes. By combining strengths, DHL and CTT position themselves as the leading logistics providers in a market set to grow exponentially in the coming years.
