The Shopping affiliate program was first introduced in the US in June last year. South Korea is the second country to have this feature. YouTube plans to expand its partnerships with more companies to enable a broader range of products for tagging. This initiative demonstrates YouTube's commitment to supporting creators in different regions by providing them with new revenue streams.
YouTube has become the most used platform in Korea, surpassing KakaoTalk. The rise in popularity is attributed to the launch of YouTube Shorts in July 2021. Korean creators can now introduce various brands' products sold by Coupang in their videos. The addition of this new affiliate program is expected to further increase the platform's popularity and utility among creators and viewers alike.
YouTube plans to offer a unique shopping feature for Korean creators to build their online storefronts directly on YouTube. This service, developed with Cafe24, will provide software and business services to help merchants start their online stores. YouTube reported that people watched over 30 billion hours of shopping-related videos in 2023, with a 25% increase in watch time for shopping help videos. This new feature is expected to launch later this month, marking the first of its kind globally.
