In a dynamic expansion, Wildberries and Ozon are set to increase their seller base by 50% by 2024, totaling 700,000. This significant growth is propelled by active, professional sellers on these leading Russian marketplaces.
The end of 2023 saw significant growth for Russia's largest online marketplaces, Wildberries and Ozon, with nearly 550,000 sellers. Analysts from Data Insight project a 50% increase by the end of 2024, bringing the total to 700,000 sellers. This boost is attributed to organic growth and the reactivation of dormant sellers, along with new entrants.
According to Nadezhda Vinogradova, head of seller research at Data Insight, the surge will primarily involve consistently active sellers for whom marketplace sales have become a career. This group's expansion underscores a robust, professional trading environment on these platforms.
Most sellers on Wildberries (56%) and Ozon (35%) specialize in clothing, shoes, and accessories. However, household goods represent a significant segment on Ozon, comprising half of its sellers, contrasted with 34% on Wildberries. Both marketplaces share about 20% of sellers in the beauty and health categories.
The expected growth in seller numbers is supported by increased activity from individual entrepreneurs, who form the backbone of these marketplaces. For instance, self-employed sellers on Ozon grew by 22% during the study period. Such trends suggest a healthy, expanding digital marketplace ecosystem.
