Launched in 2019, InHome began as a pilot program in Pittsburgh and Vero Beach, Florida. The service uses specially trained delivery personnel who access homes via smart locks and record the entire delivery process via body cameras.

Carson Krieg of Project44 highlighted that InHome appeals to a niche, yet highly loyal, audience. He noted, "While the audience likely to leverage the delivery service is niche, it is a high-value and loyal one."

Walmart is ranked No. 2 in the Top 1000 by Digital Commerce 360, highlighting its dominance in the online retail space. The expansion of InHome is seen as a strategic move to enhance customer loyalty and convenience. Krieg added that the service could also benefit elderly people or those with health conditions who find it difficult to handle groceries. “This is a smart way to create a new subset of loyal customers,” Krieg explained. He also predicted that other retailers might emulate Walmart’s approach to retain their market share.
