Sysco, a global leader in foodservice, has launched a new online marketplace as part of its digital transformation strategy. Announced during the 2024 Investor Day by Chief Administrative Officer Neil Russell, the Sysco Marketplace is designed to enhance core performance, support the Recipe for Growth strategy, and boost shareholder value. The marketplace offers a wider array of niche and specialty products, aimed at improving customer choice and satisfaction.
The marketplace is powered by Mirakl, a well-known platform for building online marketplaces. This collaboration allows Sysco to expand into new categories, including non-food and specialty products. Neil Russell emphasized, “Through Marketplace, we’re able to streamline the shopping experience with a one-stop-shop solution that gives our customers access to over 15,000 niche products such as ethnic spices or gluten-free items to help enhance their menus.”
The Sysco Marketplace, which took nine months to develop, is now live with over 15,000 products. It provides customers with a seamless shopping experience, allowing them to search for and purchase products from new and existing suppliers with ease. The marketplace also ensures convenient check-out and payment processes, with clear delivery dates and the ability to use current payment terms for purchases.
Sysco’s initiative also aims to support smaller suppliers by leveraging Sysco’s scale for good. Adrien Nussenbaum, Mirakl’s co-CEO, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “Sysco’s marketplace will make it even easier for local and independent restaurants to source everything they need for their operations in one place, saving them valuable time and resources.” This marketplace reflects a growing trend among wholesale businesses to adopt digital solutions for better customer service and efficiency.
