Swiggy brings back Handpicked under Instamart, offering over 500 premium items in Bengaluru, expanding soon to Mumbai and Delhi. Delivery within 10 minutes. Handpicked closed in May 2023 due to restructuring. Valuation now $15.1B.
Swiggy, the food tech platform, has reintroduced Handpicked, its premium grocery delivery service. This service has been relaunched under Instamart, Swiggy's quick commerce vertical. Initially available only in Bengaluru, Handpicked will soon expand to Mumbai and Delhi. It features over 500 distinctive items from regional and well-known brands like Iyengar's, Sweet Karam Coffee, The Whole Truth, NOTO, Masterchow, and Blue Tokai.
Handpicked offers a variety of locally sourced and niche items such as homemade paneer, freshly baked breads, oriental sauces, and cookies from regional players. Swiggy's statement highlights the availability of “local, regional, and select new-age brands, clean-label products, freshly prepared items, and gourmet offerings.” The key feature of Handpicked is that items will be delivered within ten minutes within the city, enhancing convenience for users.
Handpicked was initially closed in May 2023 as part of Swiggy's restructuring to cut losses. A Swiggy spokesperson explained, “At Swiggy, we're continuously experimenting with new propositions in line with our vision to enable convenience for consumers.” The pilot program in Bengaluru provided several positive learnings, which contributed to the decision to relaunch the service.
Phani Kishan, CEO of Swiggy Instamart, emphasized their commitment to quality and consistency. He stated, “We work closely with local partners to rigorously evaluate products for quality and consistency, and only then list them as Handpicked on Instamart.” The relaunch also follows a report by Baron Capital that elevated Swiggy's valuation to $15.1 billion. With the relaunch of Handpicked, Swiggy aims to maintain its competitive edge in the market as it prepares for its IPO.
