Shopify announced a series of new AI products at its Shopify Editions event, including tools for personalized customer responses and product categorization. These upgrades aim to enhance merchant productivity and sales. The event also highlighted a partnership with Target.
Shopify Inc., the Ottawa-based e-commerce giant, unveiled over 150 new AI-related products during its Shopify Editions event. Among the most notable are tools designed to help merchants personalize responses to customer emails and categorize products more effectively. These tools can suggest attributes like color, size, material, and style, making it easier for businesses to increase product discoverability and drive sales. “We’re confident these updates will continue to make it easier for our merchants to do what they do best and focus on scaling their businesses,” said Harley Finkelstein, Shopify’s president.
In addition to the AI tools, Shopify is introducing features to help merchants manage their social media campaigns and improve point-of-sale operations. Canadian merchants can now set more precise budgets for social media ads, only paying if new customers make purchases. The point-of-sale app will also allow businesses to generate digital receipts and notify them if a return is outside company policy. These updates aim to reduce uncertainty for retail employees and improve overall merchant efficiency.
Shopify’s new offerings build on last summer’s launch of Sidekick, an AI chatbot that helps merchants with business operations. While Sidekick has early access users, it has not fully launched yet, with Shopify planning to add more users this year. The race to adopt AI is pushing many companies to explore how the technology can enhance productivity and efficiency. Shopify’s focus on AI is part of a broader trend in the industry, aiming to make their platform more powerful and user-friendly.
Separate from the Editions event, Shopify announced a partnership with U.S. retailer Target Corp. This collaboration allows Shopify merchants to sell their products through Target Plus, a third-party marketplace. Target plans to bring some Shopify merchants’ products to its stores in the coming months. This partnership is part of Shopify’s strategy to expand merchant reach and improve sales channels. The announcements were made a day before Shopify's developer conference in Toronto, further highlighting the company's commitment to innovation and growth.
