Instacart unveiled new money-saving features, including fee-free next-day deliveries for orders over $10 and personalized digital circulars highlighting discounted items. These initiatives aim to make online grocery shopping more affordable.
On Wednesday, Instacart announced new features designed to help consumers save money on groceries. The key highlights include personalized digital circulars that show discounts on frequently purchased items and a next-day delivery option where e-commerce fees are waived on orders over $10. Additionally, fees for pickup orders of $35 or more are also waived, providing multiple ways to cut costs.
The digital flyers introduced by Instacart allow customers to view weekly deals from various retailers in one place. These flyers can be personalized based on the shopper's buying habits, notifying them when their favorite items are on sale. Instacart aims to make it easier for consumers to compare prices and maximize savings with these digital tools.
Instacart has also expanded access to store loyalty programs, partnering with major retailers like Costco, Kroger, and Wegmans. Shoppers using these programs can save an average of $8-$12 per order. Furthermore, Instacart has increased SNAP online acceptance, now available at nearly 30,000 stores, covering almost 98% of SNAP households in the U.S.
According to Instacart Chief Product Officer Daniel Danker, the company’s initiatives come at a crucial time when consumers face significant costs, such as back-to-school shopping. A survey by LendingTree found that 2-in-5 consumers expect debt from back-to-school expenses, averaging $793. The new cost-saving measures are part of Instacart's strategy to make grocery shopping more affordable. Additionally, a report from Brick Meets Click and Mercatus highlighted that reduced e-commerce fees have contributed to growth in grocery delivery services, which now account for over 40% of e-grocery sales.
