Etsy's CEO announces new Creativity Standards, emphasizing seller involvement. The platform introduces new item details, highlights creative processes, and launches a new marketing campaign. Key events include Etsy Up and Etsy Design Awards.
Since its founding in 2005, Etsy has been a hub for creativity and self-expression. Etsy has connected creative entrepreneurs with tens of millions of buyers worldwide. Investments in the platform include allowing production partners in 2014 and expanding resources across customer support, product, and marketing during recent growth. Etsy remains committed to combating noncompliant listings to protect its marketplace.
To clarify what is allowed on Etsy, new Creativity Standards are introduced. The standards emphasize that all items must be made, designed, sourced, or handpicked by the seller. These changes highlight human involvement in the creation process. Etsy continues to be the marketplace for original items from real people. The standards take effect immediately, and sellers are encouraged to read the detailed policy in the Seller Handbook.
Etsy will add new item details on listing pages to show why an item belongs in the marketplace and the seller's role in the process. Categories include "Made by," "Designed by," "Sourced by," and "Handpicked by" the seller. More options will be added for sharing details about processes, materials, and tools. Etsy aims to improve search visibility and provide more actionable insights to help sellers enhance their listings.
Etsy's new marketing campaign highlights sellers through TV commercials, billboards, and social media content in the US and UK. The homepage in these regions is refreshed to show new shoppers the human touch involved in all Etsy items. Etsy Up, the virtual seller conference, returns on September 10, and the Etsy Design Awards kick off on July 16, honoring sellers across multiple categories. These updates aim to support and celebrate Etsy’s creative community.
