In 2024, eBay Foundation awarded $3M to 31 global nonprofits through its Global Give program. This initiative supports organizations tackling barriers to entrepreneurship for underrepresented groups. By partnering with Defy Ventures, Global Sisters, and Hatch Enterprise, eBay aims to unleash entrepreneurial potential globally. 💼 Defy Ventures: Empowering Second Chances
In the U.S., Defy Ventures received a grant to support entrepreneurship among formerly incarcerated individuals. More than 5M people in the U.S. face unemployment at rates five times higher than the general population after release. Defy Ventures works to reduce recidivism by helping participants start their own businesses. Since 2012, they have helped launch over 200 businesses and supported over 1,000 individuals in 2023 alone. This grant will help Defy expand its programs, reducing barriers to financial independence through entrepreneurship training and personal development.
🇬🇧 Hatch Enterprise: Closing the Opportunity Gap
Hatch Enterprise, based in the U.K., is another Global Give grantee. In 2023, they helped over 1,100 underrepresented entrepreneurs through 14 programs and 100 community events. Their programs, from Launchpad to Incubator to Accelerator, support entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. With eBay’s support, Hatch will continue offering free peer coaching, workshops, and pitch events to help founders grow. Alumni also benefit from the Hatch Fund, which provides grants to those who complete the program. This ongoing partnership aims to build a more inclusive business landscape in the U.K.
🇦🇺 Global Sisters: Women's Economic Security
In Australia, Global Sisters is dedicated to helping women achieve financial independence through entrepreneurship. Their programs serve women facing unemployment, gender-based violence, disabilities, and those living in remote areas. Over 6,500 women have benefited from their support. Global Sisters’ 2024 grant will enable them to expand their no-cost business support programs, ensuring more women can access the tools and resources needed to start and grow their businesses. Their efforts are focused on creating long-term economic security for women across Australia.
