DoorDash has expanded its partnership with Wegmans across six states and added four new local grocers to its marketplace, including Kowalski’s, Mar-Val, Geissler’s, and Milam’s. This is part of DoorDash's continued effort to grow its grocery delivery services and diversify beyond restaurants.
On October 8, 2024, DoorDash announced a major expansion of its partnership with Wegmans. Grocery delivery is now available at all Wegmans stores in Maryland, with plans to include stores in Virginia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Delaware, and upstate New York. This marks an extension of their existing relationship, which already offers delivery of hot meals via Wegmans Meals2Go. In addition, DoorDash is offering a 40% discount for orders of $50 or more from participating Wegmans locations for a limited time.
In its push to diversify beyond restaurant deliveries, DoorDash has also brought on board four regional grocery chains. These include Kowalski’s Markets with 11 stores in Minnesota, Mar-Val Food Stores with 9 locations in rural California, Geissler’s Supermarkets in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and Milam’s Markets with 6 locations in Miami-Dade. All these stores will be part of DoorDash’s DashPass membership program, which waives delivery fees on eligible orders.
This year alone, DoorDash has expanded partnerships with several major grocery brands including Ahold Delhaize banners like Food Lion, Giant Food, and Stop & Shop. The addition of new specialty grocers like H Mart and now Wegmans allows DoorDash to grow its delivery offerings while tapping into new customer bases. These partnerships help DoorDash remain competitive in the evolving online grocery market, which is increasingly important for its growth.
DoorDash’s grocery partnerships represent a strategic move to strengthen its presence in the food delivery industry, which has been rapidly growing since the pandemic. By aligning with well-known grocery chains and regional players, DoorDash diversifies its offerings, creating more value for customers. This strategy could help DoorDash attract more DashPass subscribers and grow beyond its restaurant-focused roots. As grocery delivery becomes more competitive, these partnerships will be essential for DoorDash’s long-term success.
