Bigbasket, owned by Tata, launches BB Matrix, a SaaS platform to help mid-to-large companies in various industries modernize supply chains. They plan to target automotive and electronics manufacturing, aiming for both Indian and global markets.
Bigbasket, the online grocery platform, has launched a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform called BB Matrix. This new vertical aims to help businesses manage their supply chains and operations. BB Matrix includes three products: a warehouse management system, a transportation management system, and an order management system. Rakshit Daga, the chief product and technology officer at Bigbasket, will lead this initiative. According to Daga, “We’ve taken all the supply chain innovation, product and technology that we have built over the last 12-13 years and packaged it as a SaaS product.”
BB Matrix targets mid-to-large-stage companies in omnichannel retail, automotive manufacturing, and general manufacturing. Daga explained that legacy systems struggle to adapt to modern business needs, making it hard to build a quick commerce supply chain. The company has had early conversations and pilots with businesses in automotive and electronics manufacturing and retail. This move positions Bigbasket to help legacy brands become future-ready for e-commerce.
Bigbasket, acquired by Tata Digital in May 2021, continues to operate independently within the Tata Group. With BB Matrix, they plan to acquire customers both in India and abroad. The company’s total revenue improved to ₹9,499.3 crore ($1.2B) in FY23 from ₹8,556 crore ($1.1B) in FY22. However, total losses widened to ₹1,785.4 crore ($224M) in FY23 from ₹1,040.7 crore ($131M) in FY22. Despite these losses, Bigbasket is optimistic about the potential growth with BB Matrix.
Bigbasket was founded in 2011 and runs brands like BB Now and BB Daily. The launch of BB Matrix could create new competitors in the e-commerce space. Despite the growing competition, Daga believes the market is large enough to accommodate new players. “We definitely believe that the market is big enough. There are multiple industries which could benefit from the supply chain revolution,” he stated. Each potential customer will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, especially if they are in direct competition with existing clients.
Will BB Matrix give legacy brands the edge in e-commerce?
