Amazon introduces Project Amelia, an AI assistant for sellers, starting in the U.S. The tool helps sellers manage and grow their businesses by answering questions about sales metrics and customer traffic. Available now in beta.
Amazon has launched Project Amelia, an AI assistant designed to help U.S. sellers grow their businesses. Built on AWS’s Amazon Bedrock, it was unveiled on September 19, 2024. The assistant provides critical insights by answering questions like “How is my business doing?” Sellers receive summaries that include sales, units sold, and website traffic, with comparisons to the previous year. The AI is in beta, with broader U.S. rollout plans later this year, followed by international expansion.
Project Amelia is not just about metrics; it also assists with issue resolution. Sellers can inquire about specific problems, such as inventory discrepancies. For example, a seller might ask, “I have 300 units on the way, but they aren’t showing up in the report. Can someone look into this?” The assistant provides personalized guidance and, if needed, connects the seller with Amazon’s support team. This feature mimics traditional chatbot interactions, enhancing seller support.
Amazon plans to further expand Project Amelia's capabilities. In the future, the AI assistant might manage tasks or resolve issues on behalf of sellers. Although Amazon has not provided a specific timeline for these features, the goal is clear: to minimize the time, effort, and resources sellers need to manage their businesses. This allows sellers to focus more on developing products and improving customer satisfaction, a point emphasized by Mary Beth Westmoreland, VP of Amazon’s Worldwide Selling Partner Experience.
Initially available to select U.S. sellers, Project Amelia will soon be accessible to a wider audience across the U.S., with plans to launch in other countries and languages by the end of the year. This international expansion highlights Amazon’s strategy to provide advanced tools to sellers worldwide, reinforcing its commitment to innovation in e-commerce. This move follows Amazon's previous AI advancements, such as AI-powered product listings and advertisement tools, aiming to elevate the overall seller experience on the platform.
