Mytheresa and Zalando drive Germany’s rise in e-commerce. Mytheresa’s $4.3B luxury plan and Zalando’s $10.6B revenue lead the charge in 2025, shaping a new market leader.
Germany is now Europe’s fashion e-commerce capital, surpassing the UK. Mytheresa and Zalando are spearheading this shift. Mytheresa’s acquisition of Yoox Net-a-Porter (YNAP) positions it as a $4.3B luxury e-commerce leader. Zalando, with $10.6B in 2024 revenue, is acquiring About You to boost market share. Germany’s decentralized cities, advanced logistics, and tech-driven strategies have fueled this dominance. In 2023, 40% of fashion sales in Germany occurred online.
Mytheresa’s deal with Richemont will finalize by mid-2025, integrating YNAP while maintaining distinct platforms. CEO Michael Kliger calls this strategy “ultra luxe and curated.” A $600M distribution center near Leipzig speeds deliveries by partnering with DHL. Mytheresa’s tech edge allows rapid scaling, aiming for $4.3B in gross merchandise value by 2029. Its focus on exclusive capsules with brands like Miu Miu and Moncler keeps high-end clients loyal.
Zalando’s acquisition of About You will close by summer 2025. This merger enhances B2B services via About You’s Scayle platform, which powers retailers like Harrods. With a 5–10% revenue growth target until 2028, Zalando’s ecosystem strategy aims for 15% of Europe’s $482B fashion market. Its fulfillment centers and sustainable collaborations make it a tech-driven, customer-focused leader in the contemporary fashion market.
Zalando and About You are deepening their sustainability efforts. Their “Fashion Leap for Climate” platform helps brands reduce carbon footprints. Germany’s e-commerce leaders also encourage sustainable shopping decisions. This eco-focus aligns with customer demand for ethical fashion and cements Germany’s role as a forward-thinking market leader.
