🚧 Building a logistics giant
On October 2, 2024, Galaxus laid the foundation stone for a massive logistics center in Neuenburg am Rhein. Spanning 90,000 square meters, the center will be operational by summer 2025, creating 1,000 jobs. Jens Fondy-Langela, the mayor of Neuenburg, hailed it as "the largest commercial development since the 1960s." Galaxus plans to replicate its largest Swiss warehouse in Wohlen. This expansion is crucial due to delays in Switzerland and rising demand in both Germany and Switzerland.
📦 Strategic location
The logistics center’s location in Neuenburg offers quick access to Switzerland, Germany, and France. COO Michael Stolle explained that Neuenburg was ideal, as products from northern European ports pass through this area. With a solid highway network, Galaxus can efficiently distribute products across western South Baden and into France. Recruitment for the site is underway, but the main hiring wave will start in summer 2025, targeting Neuenburg and the nearby French city of Mulhouse.
🏢 Future investment
In parallel with its logistics project, Galaxus opened new German headquarters in Hamburg in September 2024. The new office, with three times the space of the old one, is located in the Hoheluft-Ost district and includes a rooftop terrace. This move marks Galaxus’s long-term commitment to expanding in Europe, supported by parent company Migros. The Migros Group recently approved a multi-year budget to further develop Galaxus's operations in Germany and Europe.
🌍 European growth strategy
Migros reviewed all its strategic projects earlier this year and decided to continue backing Galaxus’s European expansion, including new logistics and office spaces. Galaxus’s investment in Neuenburg is key to this growth, allowing them to streamline operations and compete more effectively in the region. Stolle noted that the expansion is “essential to meeting rising demand across markets.” Building permits are secured, and environmental concerns, such as species protection, are being carefully addressed.
